Volunteering for Community Service– Level 1

Course Outline

This course will be suitable for individuals who already work or sector about to start in the voluntary. The course will equip the volunteer to effectively support vulnerable individuals who present themselves for assistance or want/need to access services to maintain daily living activities. This course will limit itself to voluntary settings such as drop in centres, soup kitchens, community centres and independent organisations

Learning Outcomes

  • Know how to assess risk in relation to working with vulnerable,
  • Know how to work homeless and new arrivals (e.g. Europe)
  • Know how to work and interact with alcoholics
  • Know how to work with drug dependant individuals
  • Be aware of the agencies who provide skilled support for individuals
  • Understand the barriers to good communication with vulnerable individuals
  • Understand how a volunteer maintains their personal safety when working individuals who have an addiction 

To be confirmed by DCS Training Team

  • Duration of training 2 – 3hrs
  • Learners are required to obtain 75% pass mark
  •  Learners may revisit the teat for no additional cost so long as they revisit the training material
